Avoid the hassle of shaving and tweezing with long-lasting benefits of waxing. Waxing removes the entire hair, from the root of follicle and exfoliates more of your skin to give your skin hair-free and fabulously smooth.
Waxing is more effective than shaving because it removes your hair further down the shaft so it takes longer for it to grow back and become noticeable.
Unless you have particularly sensitive skin, waxing will give you very smooth skin because it will remove excess, unwanted hair and dead skin.
Benefits of Waxing
Waxing is a way to remove hair temporarily, though the results are much longer lasting than the results of shaving and other temporary hair removal techniques.
Compared to other temporary hair removal techniques, waxing is cheaper and easier, though a single session can be somewhat time-consuming. Following are a few unexpected ways that waxing benefits your skin:
-
Improved skin texture
-
No skin irratation or allergies
-
No cuts and minimal bruising
-
Stubble-free skin
-
Slow hair re-growth
Before and After Care
-
Exfoliate a few days before waxing: Using a gentle exfoliating scrub on the area will remove any dead skin cells that have collected in the area—they can clog the hair follicles and cause irritation and ingrown hairs, so exfoliating will make your waxing process more effective (and less troublesome) overall.
-
Grow hair to around a quarter-inch long, and don't shave: Hair needs to be at least a quarter of an inch long for the waxing strips to be able to grab it, so be sure to allow your hair the proper amount of time to grow out.
-
Use a deodorant without antiperspirant if you will be getting an underarm wax. The hair comes off easier.
-
Don't do it on or near your period: Your skin is considerably more sensitive in the week before and during your period than any other time of the month, so your pain will be maximized around that time frame. Wait a week or two, and you’ll have a much more pleasant experience overall.
-
Don't exfoliate, swim, sunbathe for 48 hours afterward: Even if you aren't sensitive to waxing, it's best to avoid exfoliating the area, swimming, or sunbathing for at least 48 hours post-wax. Your skin is still compromised, probably because it had hot wax applied to it and then torn off, so you don’t want to do anything else to make the aftermath worse.
-
Avoid tight clothing: Sweat and tight clothing can trap bacteria close to the skin, which is not what you want when your skin has been subject to waxing and therefore is more susceptible to bacteria and infection. Keep your clothing loose for the rest of the day, and avoid excessive sweating as much as you can.
-
Avoid any hot treatments for 24 hours post-waxing (bath, sauna, steamer, tanning bed).
Contraindications
WARNING: Waxing will not be done on clients taking Accutane, Retin-A, Differin and many other medications can adversely affect how your skin reacts to hair removal.
Please read your medication label carefully or consult with your dermatologist if you are taking any medication or using any topical cream that contains these medications.
Precautions & Considerations
-
Sunburned, irritated or areas with open skin cannot be waxed.
-
You must wait a minimum of seven (7) days before waxing after a light chemical peel or Microdermabrasion.
-
Waxing cannot be performed if you have had laser skin resurfacing within the past year.
-
Waxing cannot be performed if you have been in a tanning booth the same day.
-
If irritation should occur, recommend you use an antibiotic ointment such as Neosporin to keep the area continually moist to avoid infection and scabbing.
-
No sun/tanning booths for 2 days following a waxing treatment. Extra precaution should be taken if using tanning accelerators. Wait 2-3 days to wax before/after tanning with accelerators.
-
No hot baths for 24 hours following a body waxing treatment.
-
No swimming in tropical waters for 72 hours following a body waxing treatment.
-
No deodorants for 24 hours following an underarm waxing treatment.
